Set in one and a half acres wuth a 180 deg. view over the Lot river in southern central France, our tranquil and comfortable cottage hideaway is perfect for chilling out with a glass of local wine beside a blazing logfire and for exploring the beautiful  surrounding countryside. A short walk down to the village provides fresh bread and croissants or dine in the local inn. Skiing is just over an our hour away in the Massif Central.

Au Riverain is situated above Vieillevie and is within a few minutes walk of the shop, restaurant and bars and internet café. It is a new house but built in the traditional style of local houses. Vieillevie is probably one of the most pleasant of all the Lot valley villages. It sits in a huge valley bowl and soaks up the sun all day to allow palm trees, banana trees and the like to flourish in abundance. Always 2 or 3 degrees warmer with its mini Mediterranean climate is a huge attraction.

This cottage enjoys magnificent south facing views over the whole valley with the sun from first to last light giving it a really bright feel. There is a heated 8 x 4 metres swimming pool adjacent to the tiled sun terrace in front of the house and a ground level trampoline for the brave. All this sits comfortably with landscaped gardens and lawns totalling over an acre and a half. Other sitting or sun bathing areas around the house enable total seclusion and when the time comes for shady moments a pergola above a wooden deck is also by the house.

Everywhere within the grounds you can see and hear the river tumbling along 200 metres below.
Access via three French windows from the terrace lead into a magnificent tiled lounge and dining area with the latest TV and DVD playing through a Sony home cinema system.

The kitchen has all you could wish for and also looks onto the terrace. Behind the kitchen is a utility room with toilet, washing machine and fridge freezer to supplement the smaller fridge in the kitchen. A large inglenook fireplace and log burner surrounded by oak beams add a certain comfort to the room.

Up the beautiful oak staircase are three double bedrooms. Two share a bathroom and the third is en-suite.

We feel that ‘Au Riverain’ is especially suited to a stay out of season, having excellent insulation, a wood burning fire and electric central heating installed. Indeed, the owners reported a very cosy and sunny New Year 2008 and a sunny February, too. The swirling, early morning valley mists are quite a spectacle to behold in themselves!

For those who may want to taste skiing locally, the resort of Super Lioran is only a 75 minute drive away, via Aurillac, and is suitable for beginners/intermediates including children.
