La Grange - Uzes - FRENCH COTTAGE
Belvezet, nestled in the valleys just to the north of 12th century Uzes, in the heart of Provence, is one of the sleepier villages you might imagine.
But it's dozing half-sister, Mas de La Vielle Eglise makes it seem a hive of activity. While Belvezet has a recently opened café‚ (pizzas, oddly, but good, I'm assured), a petanque court, and an art gallery at the Mairie, La Vielle Eglise has little more than its old church as specific feature by which to notice it.
Unless of course, you count the stunning views, the immeasurable peace, the (perhaps slightly older) architecture, the ubiquitous old French man, chatting to passers by from his jardin, the communal spirit around the piscine de village, the stream, the lack of traffic, the vineyard, and that's just in the village.
As well as Belvezet, you're only minutes away from Uzes, and it's market, history, shops (and even Haribo Museum!), the Pont du Gard, the Bouscarasse Aqua Park, the Cevennes National Park, the rare breed farm at Vallerargues, the organic vineyards of Fontareches, and the Languedoc.
And in the centre of all this, lies La Grange, a recently updated two bed gite that's been in the same family for nearly 70 years.
Now comfortably sleeping up to four people, with a modern kitchen, light and airy living rooms, wood burning stove, roll top bath (from which you can look straight down the valley), power shower, king size beds, terrasse, garden, hammock and cedar hot-tub-cum-plunge-pool, La Grange really does meet all possible needs of the weary traveller, busy family or romantic couple.
At 45 minutes from Nimes airport, and only a 90 minute flight from London, there's more that enough to do, if doing is what you want, and more than enough space, if space is what you need.
