Les Glycines - FRENCH COTTAGE
Les Glycines is a traditional detached stone cottage, south-facing and overlooking the River Lot in a particularly interesting section of this stunning valley. The hamlet of Soulou contains just three riverside cottages – Les Glycines being one and the others are Le Four and Soulou Cottage, both of which are under our management.
The cottage is adjacent to a sandy riverside beach where visitors have watched kingfishers and herons, whilst red kites and eagles circle the sky. Conques - the most magical village in France is just 12 miles away.
The house is approached by way of an inclined driveway. The main entrance to the cottage is from a terrace - up a short flight of stone steps from the car parking area. The entrance leads directly into a very large living room and dining area with easy chairs and a good size dining table to one side. There is oil fired central heating throughout and a wood burning stove in the living room. Off this large room is a well equipped small kitchen. The stairway leads to the upper floor where there are two double bedded rooms. A bathroom with shower and separate toilet are adjacent to the two bedrooms.
Outside is a wonderful wisteria covered terrace where alfresco meals can be served while at the same time enjoying the serene views of the river Lot below. On the terrace is a separate small annex which houses a utility room with washing machine and another toilet. A very large terraced garden extends way above the house.
The cottage is within 20 minutes walking distance of Vieillevie which has two restaurants and a local store which sells fresh bread and croissants daily and serves as an Internet cafe. Entraygues and Montsalvy are both 8 miles away.
There is no swimming pool, but just opposite the house is a grassed area with sandy beach where visitors can dip into the river or even go fishing.
In May and June watch for the local Lot Valley Moth (saturnia pyri). It has up to a 6" wingspan, is green in colour and found between Vieillevie and Entraygues.
Canoeing is very popular on this stretch of the river and there are several horse riding establishments in the surrounding hills. There is a tennis court in the village of Vieillevie.
The area around the property abounds with wildlife. Red kite nest just across the river and deer and even wild pigs have been seen in the vicinity of the cottage, also red squirrels. The hillside grounds above the house provide magical views across the river valley.
This cottage is well positioned for a quiet, relaxing holiday.
